Utah Food Bank's Kids Cafe provides more than 1,700 hot, nutritious meals daily to children in low-income after- school programs at schools, community centers and after-school programs around Salt Lake County.
Kids Cafe Facts:
- Utah Food Bank prepares more than 1,700 nutritious, warm meals weekdays, and transports them to 35 after-school sites Monday through Thursday. In total last year, we provided close to 245,000 meals to kids who might otherwise go to bed hungry.
- The after-school sites include elementary schools, community centers and after-school programs in Salt Lake County where 50% or more of the participants receive free or reduced breakfasts and lunches at school.
- At 33 sites, children participate in the BackPack Program. Each child receives a bag of kid-friendly, nutritious, easy-to-open food to last them over the weekend.
Interested in Volunteering to Serve Kids Cafe?
Kids Cafe volunteers partner with site staff and students to set up, serve and clean up a weeknight meal. A three-month, one-day-per-week minimum commitment is requested. Kids Cafe is generally served for 30 minutes in the late afternoon/early evening; total volunteer time per day is approximately 1.5 hours. Volunteers will participate in a food safety and Kids Cafe training session prior to starting at a site.
