Kids Cafe Facts:
- Utah Food Bank prepares more than 1,800 nutritious meals each weekdays and transports them to 42 after-school sites. In total last year, we provided close to 283,000 meals to kids who might otherwise go to bed hungry.
- The after-school sites include elementary schools, community centers and after-school programs in Salt Lake County where 50% or more of the participants receive free or reduced breakfasts and lunches at school.
- At 35 sites, children participate in the BackPack Program. Each child receives a bag of kid-friendly, nutritious, easy-to-open food to last them over the weekend.
Interested in Volunteering to Serve Kids Cafe?
Kids Cafe volunteers partner with site staff and students to set up, serve and clean up a weeknight meal. A three-month, one-day-per-week minimum commitment is requested. Kids Cafe is generally served for 30 minutes in the late afternoon/early evening; total volunteer time per day is approximately 1.5 hours. Volunteers will participate in a food safety and Kids Cafe training session prior to starting at a site.
