Family Volunteering

Volunteering at Utah Food Bank with your family is a great way to spend quality time together while serving others.

Are you looking for a meaningful way to spend time with your family while giving back? Join us for a Family Volunteer Shift at Utah Food Bank! These special shifts are designed specifically to allow for younger volunteers (ages 6-11) and their adult guardians.

Family shifts fill up quickly—often two months in advance—so be sure to sign up early. For specific times and availability, please complete our Volunteer Interest Form using the SIGN UP link above.

Additional Volunteering Guidelines:

  • Supervision: Parents or guardians must actively supervise and be responsible for their children.
  • Children Under 6: While we cannot accommodate children under 6 in our facilities for safety reasons, we offer alternative opportunities like food box delivery and decoration (availability varies).
  • Ages 12 & Up: Families with older children (12+) are encouraged to participate in our regular volunteer opportunities, to allow shifts to accommodate groups with younger children.
Caring Cards: Caring Cards are small; uplifting notes included in food boxes delivered to individuals who are unable to visit a local pantry. This opportunity is open to all ages, and cards can be dropped off at the Volunteer Desk during business hours. Please note that service credit hours are not provided for creating Caring Cards.
Guidelines for Caring Cards:
• Cards may be any size up to 9 inches; 4×6 cardstock is recommended
• Keep messages positive and uplifting
• Avoid political or religious themes, images, or messages
• Do not use materials that may fall off (such as buttons, ribbons, or glitter)
• Avoid chalk or paint that could rub off on hands or clothing
• Cards should be flat for easy packing
